William E. Troutt is the 19th president of Rhodes College, a top tier liberal arts college, which is located in Memphis, Tennessee. He was installed as president on March 30, 1999 and inaugurated on April 14, 2000. Prior to serving as president of Rhodes, Troutt served as president of Belmont University from 1982-1999. Troutt has chaired the National Commission on the Cost of Higher Education, which served as a guide to the Higher Education Reauthorization Act of 1998. Troutt is currently Chairman of the American Council on Education and is a former Chairman of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. He is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Troutt's publications include the Peabody Journal of Education, the Journal of Higher Education, and New Directions for Institutional Research.
